The Creation of SKC

The Creation of SKC is a contextual work evoking the question of non existing Student Cultural Center in Banja Luka.The phenomenon of SKC, characteristic for the former Yugoslavia countries, played the major role in creating the art scene and providing students and young artist a platform for education, practice and therefore affirmation.

The author organized a party and a theater play, and invited her friends and art academy students, without revealing the idea of opening her own SKC. A specific location in University campus was chosen for the event, and prior to guests arrival, in a performative manner, a big banner was written and hung up above the entrance, saying Student Cultural Center.

As people gathered, the space fulfilled its purpose and acted as titled.The one-day-SKC became a permanent mental category and as such, initiated and encouraged students to create content from week to week, the whole next month.

The work also has a social experiment dimension, whose flow offered different conclusions on current situation in culture, art and education.
